The Journey of Life

(Book by Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati)

FOREWORD

The Journey of Life is the journey of an individual. It is a unique journey because none can know its beginning nor can pinpoint its end in terms of time. The journey goes on and on. Each lap of the seemingly endless journey is accompanies by a special vehicle provided by the Lord viz. the body.

The human being is given the most elegant and evolved vehicle for his travel during the journey. But the journey becomes purposeful only when the end is clear. If the purpose of life is unclear the journey becomes a meaningless travel, a fruitless drudgery. Onece the end is clear one will have to ascertain the proper means to reach the end. The Vedic scriptures enlighten us on both the end and the means. According to the scriptures the end which everyone longs to reach is absolute freedom from dependency called moksa. Everyone must reach this end for the life’s journey to be complete. The means to reach such an end is not through actions but through the attainment of self-knowledge., which is the primary means to moksa. Everyone must reach this end for the life’s jouney to be complete. The means to reach such an end is not through actions but through the attainment of self-knowledge, which is the primary means of moksa.

Swami Sri Jhanananda Bharati who was a samyasi associated with the Sringeri matha has beautifully delineated the various means leading to the attainment of self-knowledge in his composition of nine verses entitled ‘Jivayatra’. The present book called ‘The journey of Life’ is a collection of articles written by Swamini Sharaddhananda Saraswati for the ashram’s journal ‘Paramamrtam’ and is based on the above mentioned composition. The book ‘The Journey of Life’ may hopefully inspires not only those who have been initiated into the study of the scriptures but also those who are yet to be initiated into it.

Pure Mind – A Seeker’s Paradise

(Book by Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati)

FOREWORD

The world that we all live in is one great ‘Order’ which can not but be the design of a ‘Master Mid’ whom we call as Lord Supreme. Every aspect of this wonderful creation appears to obey the laws of this Supreme Ruler. We too, as human beings, are expected to learn to accept and live with the natural psychological laws that govern us, understanding how to flow with life rather than struggle against it. Our minds can work for us or against us at any given moment. A mind which has organized its priorities on the basis of a sound moral structure can help you return to your natural state of contentment. On the contrary a mind which is not in order, which has developed a value structure which is aberrant and confuse can mess up your entire life as well as the lives of those around you. Thus the Lord has said in the Bhagavad Gita that you can either become a great friend or an enemy to yourself. Since it is inevitable for each one of us to take care of our own life it is important for us to follow certain universal code of conduct. These norms are called ‘dharma’ in scriptural parlance. They include certain values of life such as truthfulness, non-injury, absence of pride, accommodation, forgiveness etc. The Lord has enumerated twenty such vales in the thirteenth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita which are not only necessary for a seeker of Truth to prepare the mind for the knowledge of the self but are also necessary for anyone who wants to live a happy and a sane life.

The present book is a collection of articles serially written by Pujya Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati for the darshanlaya’s journal ‘Paramamrutam’ and is based on Lord’s teachings to Arjuna on the values of life. We are happy to present the book ‘Pune Mind – A Seeker’s Paradise’ and hope it will serve as a guiding manual to one and all.
